# How to Protect Yourself When Selling Steam Keys

Selling Steam keys on Gameflip can sometimes be risky, as buyers may attempt to dispute a valid key in order to get a refund while keeping the game. I recently encountered a case where a buyer falsely claimed that I had sold only the base game, despite having received the full _Definitive Edition_.
To prevent such situations, here are a few steps you can take:
1. **Always keep proof of your key source** – Screenshots of your purchase, including the exact edition of the game, can be crucial.
2. **Use SteamDB’s Chrome extension** – This tool allows you to check which package a key is activating, even if it has already been redeemed.
3. **Record the activation process** – A screen recording showing the key being activated and the game edition it provides can serve as undeniable evidence.
4. **Communicate clearly with the buyer** – If they claim the wrong version was activated, ask them to check their Steam library and DLC pages.
5. **Submit evidence promptly to Gameflip support** – If a dispute is opened, provide all necessary proof, including video and screenshots, to resolve the issue quickly.
In my case, the buyer also falsely stated that I had previously done this to them, but after checking my transaction history, I found no previous issues with them. This seems like an attempt to pressure me into a refund.
I have attached screenshots of my case as an example (I also provided video proof in a dispute window). In the case of the transaction you sent, I see that the buyer has not yet escalated the dispute so we cannot intervene. Let me know when the dispute is escalated.

Sellers (and buyers) take note. This is really helpful information and Pedja is a wonderful member of the Gameflip community. What I’ve learned from him has helped me beat many scammers over the years here (most buyers are great btw).
100% of my purchases from Pedja have been perfect. We need more sellers like him!
